For the moments when you find yourself in love.
Far too often we don't really listen, we just wait to talk. I think because it often feels too passive- but there is always something to gain by listening- especially in an argument. If both people listen- instead of just loading up their ammunition for their turn, mutual understanding wouldn't seem like such a figment of our imagination. Of course there is time to speak in any conversation but this poster aims to let you know that the time to listen to someone can be just as active.
Sometimes when you lose something, you realize that in fact it only ever weighed you down.
It's bewildering sometimes how time passes you by. I've felt like a kid for almost my entire life and then all of the sudden it hit me- I'm an adult. I'm not just a kid standing on another kid's shoulders wearing a trench coat and pretending to be an adult- I'm old and there's nothing I can do about it. I have one year left in the 18-35 demographic and then I'm no longer a cherished voice to most corporations and advertisements. Still- in many ways I embrace getting older- and hopefully wiser. I see the scars of my youth and realize that there is glory to making it through that turbulent era and feeling stronger on the other side. It may be a shock to realize you're no longer a member of the youth revolution- but someone has to chaperone that party, so it might as well be me.
"Ghosting" is one of the most infuriating social behaviors of my generation. The notion that simply not responding to someone is an acceptable way to communicate "no thanks" is absurd. C'mon people, we're all better than that. Let's respect each other enough to know that we can handle hearing "you seem like a great girl/guy but I don't really feel a connection" or "hey, thanks for inviting me but I won't be able to make it" or "sorry, we went in another direction" or even "sorry, I'd help you move but I just really don't feel like it." I feel like we all would rather hear NO than silence. Because silence is just NO without common courtesy. You're not saving anyone the pain of rejection- you're telling them they're not even worthy of your rejection. That you would rather simply forget they even exist- which is much more cruel in my mind. Let's all be big boys and girls and just be honest with people and simply say "no thanks."
"Learning lessons is a little like reaching maturity. You're not suddenly more happy, wealthy, or powerful, but you understand the world around you better, and you're at peace with yourself. Learning life's lessons is not about making your life perfect, but about seeing life as it was meant to be."
When the mind falls in love, the heart often follows.
"I can't wait to see who directed this thing!"
With the Oscar nominations out today it seemed appropriate to post this piece. Big congrats to Teachr whose fantastic art is featured in Best Picture frontrunner La La Land!
In somewhat related news I have a new episode of my podcast Paper Crown available at the iTunes store and PaperCrownPodcast(dot)com. This one stars Keir O'Donnell and Brian Maillard and is called Welcome To LA.
This isn't a political message, it's more of a personal one- at least for me. There's nothing wrong with a plan but a plan that has no bend is easily broken. Expectations are the same way. If you're too rigid with the life you expect, you won't be able to embrace the life you actually get and so you spend it disappointed or frustrated. This doesn't mean you shouldn't work to improve your life or strive to achieve a goal that could change your life for the better- it's just that often times the life you're given is far better than you give it credit for.
The dream of immortalizing yourself through a memorable legacy is seductive, elusive, fickle and unfaithful and yet so many of us chase it to the bitter end.
I stopped by this old piece living behind the Gabba Gallery yesterday. I put it up in 2015. It's rare that I get a chance to see my work age at all on the street. It's kinda cool to see how time and weather collaborate visually to add their own unique touches.
I made this for President Obama's last day in office. The last scene from Dead Poets Society came to mind. For all his imperfections, I'd proudly stand on my desk for him.
This video was shot the day after the 2016 Presidential Election as an Instagram Story and I wanted to post it here as well.

So many fragments of memories, aspirations and regrets. One day I hope to piece it all back together.
This was pasted on a median on the 101 freeway.
We've swum this far and at this point we're closer to the other side to bother swimming back to the shore. We have to keep going. Our bones are sore, our lungs are tired, our resolve is weary but we have to keep going because what else have we got? Giving up now simply invalidates all the work that got us here- redefines the aches and distance traveled as foolish and unnecessary. I'd rather give my pain a point. I'd rather see it amount to more than discomfort but to collect and form the path to a destination. This destination. Still off in the distance but it's there, waiting for us. So, what do you say? Let's keep going.
I'm kind of obsessed with having an empty e-mail box. I get agitated having unmet obligations and so when I have an empty in-box I feel a sense of relief that's pretty satisfying- and then a minute later it's gone when a new message arrives. I thought maybe some of you guys could relate.
On December 17th 2016, in honor of the upcoming (and hopefully much improved) new year, Morley continued his tradition of holiday scavenger hunts by placing 17 magnets around the city of Los Angeles. He posted the following video clues to their locations on his instagram story feed where they were only available for 24 hours.
It is currently unknown if all of the magnets were discovered.
When we get there, I'm gonna sing along with your chorus at the top of my lungs.
I was signing mini posters and Hattie got curious. Seeing as how she was the model for this poster it seemed too cute to resist snapping a picture.
A sense of comfort, peace, contentment, accomplishment or satisfaction are among the most precious and fleeting sensations so when you feel them take note.
