One of my pieces for the Surplus Candy show. This one is in a bit of a hidden room in the house that Hanksy invited 50+ artists to decorate. You may need to open a door to find it. Hanksy will be revealing the location of the show today at 4pm so keep your eyes peeled! I have four cardboard standees with balloons standing around the house and I painted the backdrops to go along with them. This one may look a bit bloody- but the idea was more along the lines of the shower spraying colors instead of water. The meaning behind the slogan is to remind us all that we're only here for a short time, so let's express ourselves creatively and leave a mark to remember us by. Even if you make a mess, if your convictions are strong and your intentions are positive, your passion will be evident and the result will be your evidence.
Another of my #surpluscandy pieces- inset, you can see how the piece looked from the other side of the window. The message reflects the fact that when I look back at my life, I've discovered the value of my failures because of what they taught me. I never really gained as much wisdom from my successes. The value of what those successes brought me, for the most part, faded pretty quick- but true wisdom never fades. So in a strange way, you can get a lot more out of a failure if it makes you look at yourself and discover something new. Success usually just helps us celebrate the stuff we already knew was there. Nothing wrong with success, but the point is, every failure can have a silver lining.
Another one of my pieces in the #surpluscandy show. Living in LA can sometimes be tough, it's almost always bright and beautiful but often it can be a cold and indifferent place. We all struggle here and face disappointment and frustration, and all the while, the sun beams down and the birds chip as though none of our heartache makes a bit of difference. But it does to those who know us, those who walk beside us and those who may not know us- but understand and relate and share a similar struggle. I'm right there with you all.
